EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
As an EMDR therapist, I work from a trauma centered approach. EMDR works by investigating the root of your triggers, identifying harmful beliefs that you may have about yourself, and working through unprocessed emotions related to your triggers. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (engaging both sides of your brain/ body) to do this. Because EMDR is a body focused therapy, there is no need to share memories you might feel uncomfortable talking about (unless you want to). This also means, no homework! Practicing EMDR can look many different ways, click on the photo below to learn more!
IFS
Internal
Family Systems
IFS is another trauma centered approach to therapy that pairs well with EMDR. IFS was created on the idea that as we age, we take on parts of other’s that strongly effect us. In IFS we explore these “parts” by engaging them in conversation, as you would in family therapy. Click the photo to learn more!
SE
Somatic Experiencing
Somatic experiencing, the third trauma centered approach I use, is completely body centered. SE’s philosophy is that we do not store trauma within the logical part of our brain, the the part that is responsible for our body ( breathing, digesting, coordination etc.) Therefore SE aims to work with your body to liberate you from your past experiences. ACT
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
ACT, is not a trauma centered approach, but a mindfulness based and existential approach to therapy. ACT combines traditional approaches to therapy, such as cognitive and behavioral therapies, with eastern philosophy. ACT is experiential, meaning you don’t talk, you do! Click the photo to learn more!
